Kellie (Lead Support Worker)
Working for CMG – Kellie’s Story
After several years working night shifts in the elderly care sector whilst raising a small child, it was time for me to change career. I had some friends who were working for CMG and had lots of positive things to say. They told me there were some local vacancies and I should apply.
I’m not too good with change (or so I thought) so was a little apprehensive, so I applied for a bank position and in no time was successful. There was no need for nerves, here at Kings Road we support 6 individual adults ranging from 22yrs – 44yrs, each of them living very fulfilling lives and achieving fantastic goals and outcomes. These range from learning to swim, to working in a barber shop, to attending a cooking group where they prepare, cook and serve a three-course meal for the community. Within three months I was changing my contract to a full-time post. I took to the challenge and looked forward to going to work!
An opportunity became available for me to apply for the position of Lead Support Worker, and I was prompted to go for it. I had only been here a little over six months. I have received such fantastic support, encouragement and mentoring here at Kings Road, (and on each and every training session I have attended). I’m so happy to be part of such an amazing team! (and company).
My day to day duties includes support, guidance, mentoring, encouraging staff and service users to give everything a go, to make good use of each and every opportunity! I attend service user holidays, I am a keyworker for a complex gentleman here, we worked hard together and even had an article produced in the Learning Disability Today journal. I have been lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to complete a higher qualification, I am a moderator for the ASDAN Towards Independence, even won 2nd place for social inclusion at the CMG Annual Staff Awards. I love my job!
