CMG honours achievements of the people it supports
Family member: “It was the proudest day in my daughter’s life”
CMG has held a very special awards evening to honour the achievements of the people it supports over the past year.
People from across England and Wales met in Surrey for the Awards Ceremony, which was held at Imber Court Sports and Social Club. The evening provided the perfect opportunity for reflection, as the organisation looked back on a hugely successful 12 months in the lives of the people it supports.
The event highlighted some remarkable success stories. For example, the Most Inspirational Individual prize was handed to ‘WB’ from CMG’s The Ridgeway service in East London.
WB, who is registered blind and has a learning disability, has a part-time job at CMG’s regional office answering phone calls and delivering post – despite having no sight he has excelled in his role. On top of his paid employment, he also has a voluntary role and is a Quality Checker for CMG, undertaking spot checks of other CMG services.
Sheila Morgan, Manager of the service WB lives at, said:
“He is a popular figure in the community and when you are having a bad day, spending time with Wilson completely brightens it up. He constantly amazes me with the things he achieves and his zest for life.”
This was the third time CMG has held the Awards Ceremony for people it supports. The idea for the event came out of CMG’s Service User Parliament – a group of people CMG supports who are elected to represent their peers.
There were 12 award categories and over 60 engraved awards handed out, including Best Achievement in Paid Employment, Excellence in Promoting Social Inclusion and Most Inspirational Group.
Roger Garside, whose daughter won an award on the evening, said:
“The whole [event] was a tribute to CMG, and to all who helped the winners of the awards to their achievements. It was the proudest day in my daughter’s life.”
Peter Kinsey, Chief Executive of CMG, said:
“The people we support have done some truly incredible things over the past year – it is only right that their achievements are celebrated.
“As an organisation, we will continue to provide them with the platform to excel, so we can be back here in 12 months’ time marking another hugely successful year.”
